Environmental Statement

Published by Studiosity Period 2021 Applies to All operations & supply chains, globally

“In the pages that follow you won't read about things like our company's recycling program, our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, cut down on plastic in the office or provide all our employees with Keep Cups for their morning coffee. We do all of those things, and much more, but we don't make a big deal about them. In our view, they're basic hygiene factors that every organisation should be undertaking.”
Jack Goodman, Founder and Chair,
in the foreword to Studiosity's full social responsibility policy

Environment and business model

Our sole organisational mission is equitable access to education support, which drives all operations and resource needs. We do not have to manage additional services, entities, or subsidiaries that deliver other services outside this core mission, and so avoid the input of physical resources – paper or the supply of chemicals, minerals, or other – as part of our service delivery.

Core to our organisation model is our IP around software development, academic quality assurance, and student experience. Investment is continually made in these areas, without need for physical or technological infrastructure.

Environment and supply chain

We focus on ensuring our use of resources is efficient and in line with our company goals of reducing waste and fostering a lean environment.

With our own IP and custom-built platforms we can deliver services with a smaller footprint of suppliers. We can achieve this while maintaining our standards, reducing turnaround times, and reducing external service risk or environmental risk that might come from additional supply chains.

The largest supplier concerns the critical hosting of our services. We choose to host our systems infrastructure with Amazon Web Services, who have displayed a continued focus on sustainable sourcing and have committed to 100% renewable energy usage in their data centres.

We also source our technology with reference to the vendor's sustainability report and the longevity of the asset taken into account.

We repair technology assets whenever we can to reduce unnecessary waste of resources and ensure that technology assets are redeployed in the business whenever possible before they are retired. Asset retirement can mean reuse outside the business or through responsible e-waste recycling services.

Environment and service footprint

We are particularly guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, target 8.4:

8.4 Improve progressively, through 2030, global resource efficiency in consumption and production and endeavour to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation, in accordance with the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, with developed countries taking the lead.

Our Subject Specialists reside in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Canada. The role offers the opportunity to help students all over the world, in a way that is flexible to suit their life balance. With the care of a geographically and culturally-diverse online team, our focus is to continually build, improve, and nurture a caring culture that promotes inclusion and wellbeing.

Inherent to the role, and of increasing social importance, is its low-environmental impact. This includes nil-to-low travel related to the role of the specialists, the students, and our centralised team's operations.

Studiosity's service is also designed to prioritise the use of existing technological resources, without the need for adding, building, or producing additional infrastructure or equipment. Since 2004 to 2021, we have increased our capacity – serving an additional 1.5 million students in that time – with only small offices opened in London and Toronto for local support of our education partners.

Continuous development

We recognise that environmental sustainability is every organisation's responsibility and requires due diligence. Studiosity will continue to be critical of our supply chain, offer transparency into our operations, and look for ways to improve our footprint.
