Retention is a complex, multi-faceted calculation. Full calculations depend on your institution, academic program mix, international student mix, average benefit of retained students including government grant funding, minus teaching and admin costs and other factors. Further, the actual financial and economic consequences for students are acknowledged to be even broader - including cost of unrealised spend by the student e.g. academic materials, accommodation, employment, and other factors relating actual spend and unrealised life chances.
