The University of Roehampton, London

About:

The University of Roehampton has a proud history in higher education stretching back nearly 180 years. Through the oldest of the four colleges, Whitelands, Roehampton has provided higher education to women for longer than any other university in the country. Today the diverse University community is comprised of around 9,500 students based on the campus in south-west London. With an excellent research profile, students have the chance to work with academic staff who are at the cutting edge of their fields and produce innovative and internationally renowned research.

Why Studiosity?

The University of Roehampton is committed to improving the student experience, including providing high quality teaching, top class facilities and a wide range of student support services. Studiosity was piloted to provide Roehampton students with online, on-demand study help when they need it most, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Outcomes

During their first year pilot, the University of Roehampton had the highest levels of student engagement with Studiosity - globally. The high student satisfaction ratings, grade success and positive contribution to successfully engaging with all students, including the hard-to-reach students, were all contributing factors to their decision to extend the service into a five-year partnership. The success of the partnership can be attributed to the integration of the service into their existing assessment and support ecosystems and their clear and robust communication campaign to students and staff.

Key Performance Measures
The pilot provided institution-wide access to Studiosity’s two 24/7 services, Writing Feedback and Connect Live for the academic year 2019-20, with key performance targets of attaining 10% student uptake and a student satisfaction rate of 90%, supported by positive student feedback comments. Both targets were met and exceeded and the key outcomes from the pilot were as follows:
  • 25.8% of students across the University used the service
  • Students gave the service a 93% satisfaction rate
  • 8,577 Writing Feedback submissions and 550 Connect Live sessions were delivered between September 2019 and August 2020
  • 66% of support was used out-of-hours (combined use outside of 9 am – 5 pm; on weekends and public holidays)

"At Roehampton, working with Studiosity is just one element of the student support and engagement work that we do, but it's been a key one of our support activities as part of the work we've been doing."

"Effectively it provides an opportunity to fill a gap that they weren't able to address through the service in the way it was set up. And therefore, we've had excellent feedback from staff."

What do students say?

The service allows students to provide feedback each time they use the service. Here is a selection of comments provided by Roehampton students during the pilot:

"I love the tone of the reviews - advisory, clear and helpful. No judgement in sight! Thanks so much."

"Ι literally love Studiosity. It is exactly what I needed to check the grammar and vocabulary".

"Thank you for giving very constructive feedback in a very short period of time! Thank you for the kind words; the comments are definitely useful and give me more confidence in the work before submitting it."

“I found this very helpful and reassuring that I am on the right path and receiving feedback really helped me to learn what I need to improve.”

"I am grateful for the service, especially at the weekend before the due date when you have the most concerns."
