In 2025, as the digital landscape rapidly evolves in education, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is at the forefront of leveraging technology to enhance student support. A recent collaborative research project with Studiosity sought to explore its impact on student learning in a Philippines, Open Distance Learning (ODL) context. The findings from this mixed-methods study, which included a survey of around 80 students and focus group discussions, offer valuable insights into the effectiveness, challenges, and opportunities of integrating AI for Learning into distance learning environments.

AI that helps, not does
Unlike large language models (LLMs) that generate content, Studiosity's AI-powered feedback tool provides immediate writing support to help students improve their work. It analyses a student's writing and offers targeted suggestions on structure, coherence, and clarity. Studiosity is designed for higher education, to foster student-driven learning and maintain academic integrity, which is a key priority for UPOU.
To contribute towards upgrading the quality of residential instruction in the University and the educational system of the country, in general, by developing, testing and utilizing innovative instructional materials and technology, and sharing these with other colleges and universities through cooperative programs.
