Case study: Macquarie University

Macquarie University, Australia
About:
Established in 1964, Macquarie University began as an institution built to be distinctive and progressive. Today, with over 39,000 students from 100 different countries, they are recognised within the top 2% of universities in the world and the top 10 universities in Australia.
Why Studiosity?
Macquarie University implemented Studiosity to allow for more engaging and effective learning through the use of innovative technology. They are also aiming to deliver support to cohorts of students for whom traditional support services may be difficult to access. By allowing students at the Macquarie University International College and Widening Participation unit access to the service, Macquarie University aimed to help bridge the gap between high school and university study, as well as attracting more students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
Outcomes*:
- 0.99 GPA points higher average for students who used the service for 100 minutes or more compared to non-users
- Increased average GPA of 0.28 points within all Studiosity users versus other students
- 88% of students felt more confident to complete their assignment
- 91% of students would like to have the service in all their units
- 95% of students rated the service as being relevant and useful
- Teachers reported easier marking of assignments with submissions being “easier to read”
*Macquarie University first published the results of the Studiosity partnership as part of their Proof of Concept Projects in December 2017.
