With more enrolments and an increasingly diverse study body, supporting each student's success flexibly and personally can be a challenge. That's why the University of Canberra (UC) partnered with Studiosity, and the results speak for themselves: a significant and scaled uplift in student performance, confidence, and overall success.

Supporting a diverse student body
The University of Canberra, like many institutions, serves a diverse student population with varying needs, backgrounds, and study schedules. They enrol more than 18,000 students (11,800+ in undergraduate & 6,300+ in postgraduate) from across Australia and 100 countries.
With 38% of UC's students identifying as First in Family; 10% identifying as living with a disability; and over 21% of Semester 1 2025 intake being International students, ensuring every student feels supported and confident in their academic journey is crucial for retention and success. UC's ambition is to be the most accessible university in Australia and a global leader in driving equality of opportunity. They recognised the need for scalable, accessible, and high-quality academic support that could complement their existing services.

A partnership to 'level the playing field'
In 2016, UC commenced a partnership with Studiosity to provide students with 24/7 personalised feedback on academic writing and core concepts, so they could be supported outside of traditional office hours.
With dedicated program and partner management from both sides, UC quickly saw robust outcomes with Studiosity's writing feedback and live, after-hours study support. In 2024 the option became available to pilot Studiosity's AI-powered 'Plus' writing feedback service with a select number of target cohorts. Professor Michelle Lincoln, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, said of this opportunity:
"We could immediately see the ways that that was going to benefit our students, not the least of which was the ability to uncap students' access so that it became a much more equitable approach to supporting our students' learning."

Implementing for maximum impact: seamless integration, embedded instruction
Integrating Studiosity into the existing university ecosystem was key to ensuring maximum success of the pilot. UC strategically introduced the service, ensuring both students and faculty understood its value to them, and how to best engage with it. This involved clear communication, direction, and embedding Studiosity as a natural part of the assignment process. `

Visible gains in students' performance and confidence
The pilot yielded impressive results, leading the university to make the decision in 2025 to extend access to AI-powered feedback across their entire 18,000 student cohort.
-
Increased academic performance: across all target cohorts where students engaged with Studiosity, there was an average grade increase among Studiosity users of 6.95, and up to 9.9 for one unit.
-
Enhanced academic confidence: The vast majority of students (88%) reported feeling more confident in their assignments and understanding of subject matter after receiving Studiosity feedback. This confidence is a vital ingredient for persistence and success.
- Higher rates of completion: The unit successful completion rate was much higher for Studiosity users compared to those who did not use Studiosity, demonstrating how personal, flexible support that meets students where they are impacts their perseverance and self-belief.
-
Positive student feedback: Surveys and testimonials consistently showed high satisfaction among students who used the service, praising its accessibility, speed, and helpfulness.
-
Faculty endorsement: Educators at UC also recognised the value of Studiosity as a complementary tool, allowing them to focus on higher-level teaching while students received foundational support.
It's one thing to see data, but another to hear directly from those impacted. There are compelling testimonials from UC students who found Studiosity to be 'a game-changer' for their studies, helping them to overcome hurdles and improve their grades. Academics also appreciate how Studiosity empowers their students and contributes to a more robust learning environment.
Looking ahead: a model for ubiquitous support and scaled student success
The University of Canberra's partnership with Studiosity is a powerful testament to how strategic integration and accessible academic support can significantly improve student outcomes, at scale. It demonstrates that investing in timely, personalised feedback not only boosts grades but also cultivates a more confident, engaged, and successful student body.
With AI-powered feedback available for every student at the university, UC can embed formative feedback into their student journey, ensuring equity of access to writing skills support across the whole institution.
