Studiosity and academic integrity

Studiosity and academic integrity

Studiosity is not a proofreading, editing or writing service. Studiosity is a learning assurance platform for universities. Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus gives feedback on the level of thinking, the argument and the structure of a student's own draft: it suggests, and the student does the fixing, so the writing stays the student's. Validate lets students demonstrate that the thinking is their own.

How Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus works

Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus returns feedback on a student's own draft in minutes, at any hour, across six areas: task alignment, critical thinking, structure, use of sources, language, and spelling and grammar. It names where in the draft an issue sits and proposes a direction.

The student decides what to change, and makes every change. Studiosity gives feedback on a student's own work and does not produce work for them. Feedback is returned with zero cognitive offload.

Educators configure Studiosity as part of setting up an assessment. Read how Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus works, and how it is academically governed.

How Studiosity fits your university's academic integrity policy

Studiosity works under contract with universities and government. Students reach the service through their own institution, inside its learning management system: Studiosity opens from inside Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard Ultra or Brightspace through LTI 1.3.

Policy sets. Assurance shows. Your university's AI policy sets what students may use, and Studiosity works within it. The educator turns that policy into two settings on each assessment: the AI Use Level, selected from the five design levels of the Artificial Intelligence Assessment Scale (AIAS), and the Validity Threshold the work needs to reach. That is the point where your academic integrity policy becomes a setting on a real assessment.

Based on the Artificial Intelligence Assessment Scale (AIAS), developed by Perkins, Furze, Roe and MacVaugh.

In Australia, TEQSA uses the term learning assurance across its generative AI assessment reform series, including Enacting assessment reform in a time of artificial intelligence (2025), anchored to institutions' existing obligations under the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021.

Studiosity's own commitments are set out in its Academic Integrity policy and its AI for Learning policy. See how a policy becomes a setting in governance, and the two settings educators choose.

How students show the thinking is their own

Universities need to know that the thinking in a submission is the student's own. A tool that returns a score leaves a person to interpret a number. Vanderbilt University disabled Turnitin's AI detector in 2023, citing reliability.

Validate works to a stated standard instead. Students demonstrate command of their own work. Educators set the AI Use Level for the assessment, and the Validity Threshold the work needs to reach. No score is produced about a student.

Students self-validate their authorship against a personal writing sample established at the start and evolving with their work, and at submission answer questions generated from their own submission. Validate assesses three dimensions, in fixed order: Cognitive Command, Authorship Continuity and Human Factors. Authorship Continuity uses no biometric or personal data.

Where the standard is reached, the work is Validated. Where it is not yet established, the work goes to the educator with the contributing factors shown, and the educator decides. Studiosity never produces a negative verdict about a student. Validate is patent pending in the EU, the US and Australia.

Evidence from partner universities

Independent researchers at partner institutions have published evaluations of Studiosity every year since 2017.

Independently measured. Studiosity use was associated with a weighted average retention uplift of 8.8 percentage points against non-users, across seven universities in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, independently modelled by Nous Group in 2026.

The analysis drew on enrolment, usage and retention records for 21,593 Studiosity users and 134,202 non-users across seven universities, two in Australia, one in New Zealand and four in the United Kingdom. Measured across the Studiosity Plus service as delivered 2024–25, seven universities, 21,593 Studiosity users.

Single institution. At the University of Toronto, 71% of students agreed or strongly agreed that Studiosity had improved their awareness of and adherence to academic integrity.

Questions about Studiosity and academic integrity

Is Studiosity a proofreading service?

No. Studiosity is a learning assurance platform for universities. Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus gives feedback on a student's own draft and leaves every change to the student, so it does not proofread, edit or rewrite the work.

Is using Studiosity cheating?

Studiosity is provided by your university, inside your learning management system, as part of how your course is taught. Studiosity gives feedback on a student's own work and does not produce work for them, so the writing and every change in it stay yours. Your university's academic integrity policy and your educator's settings decide what is permitted on each assessment.

Does Studiosity use AI, and is that allowed under my university's policy?

Yes. Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus uses AI to return feedback in minutes. Studiosity's model is built on more than twenty years of feedback given by academics on student writing, much of it from before generative AI, and since 2024 Studiosity has operated with human oversight. Your university decides whether to switch Studiosity on, and your educator sets the AI Use Level for each assessment.

Who owns the work after Studiosity feedback?

The work stays the student's. Studiosity suggests, and the student decides what to change and makes every change. Student work is never used to train the model. This is a contract commitment.

How can universities verify that students wrote their own work?

With Validate, students self-validate their authorship against a personal writing sample established at the start and evolving with their work, and at submission answer questions generated from their own submission. Educators set the Validity Threshold the work needs to reach. Where it is reached the work is Validated, and where it is not yet established the work goes to the educator with the contributing factors shown. No score is produced about a student.
